Just when you thought I was possibly completely addicted to chocolate, you were wrong. Yes, there is another love of my life, the one and only ‘Sticky Toffee Pudding’. Otherwise known as ‘Sticky Date’ back home (though Sticky Toffee sounds much better in my opinion and hence I will call it that from now on) it’s been a long-time favourite of mine. Caramel flavours amongst a warm pudding usually with a good dose of cream or ice-cream – yum!!! Dessert doesn’t get any better.
Again, following my strict instructions (I don’t usually argue with my friend, he usually knows best) we took a lovely little country drive to the small village of ‘Cartmel’ …The home of Sticky Toffee Pudding. Now too popular to produce their puddings on-site, their ‘Village Shop’ now is a treasure trove of devilishly delectable desserts and treats. Along with their sticky toffee puddings and sauce, they have sticky chocolate, sticky ginger, sticky banana and a wealth of other desserts and cakes. Of course, nothing will ever compare to Sticky Toffee in my opinion.
We stopped in their cafe, unable to wait to try one of these little gems later on (although taking home a ‘family size’ for myself wasn’t out of the question). It was quite divine. Though I found mine quite sweet in my attempt to avoid the cream that doesn’t like me too much, I have no doubt had I indulged it would have been just perfect. Possibly a bit more dense than those I’ve had back home (I suspect something to do with the quantity of and preparation of the dates) it was very nice.
Unfortunately they need to remain refrigerated, so even the online shopping and delivery option is out of the question for me, let alone packing a few away for the trip home or sending them off to a friend or two. I guess I will just have to work on perfecting my own recipe at home on this one …anyone want to be a guinea pig???
